How does the Sawyer SP134 faucet water filter work?

The Sawyer SP134, like other Sawyer water filters, contains a large number of small 'U' shaped hollow fiber microtubes that trap contaminants and allow the filtered water to flow freely at a high flow rate. This direct filtration process eliminates the need to store water and reduces the possibility of water contamination after filtration.

The Sawyer faucet filter is certified to 0.1 micron filtration. This means that particles larger than 0.1 microns, such as harmful bacteria (such as salmonella or leptospirosis), protozoa or cysts such as E. coli, Giardia, Vibrio cholerae and Salmonella typhi cannot pass through the filter.

How do you use the water filter system?

The Sawyer SP134 is very easy to use. Attach the filter to a standard tap (17-20mm in size), turn on the tap and collect the filtered water in a clean container. The tap filter is small and lightweight and is designed to be kept to hand in a drawer, toiletry bag or emergency kit for example. Always ensure that you use a higher pressure when backwashing the filter to maximise flow and filter life.
